It was a very successful 'first.' The Paul Nixon seminar (March 22-23), NDCC's first offering of continuing education for clergy and laity of North Dakota in lieu of Charis, provided clergy and laity a great dialog opportunity to talk about helping congregations find new life. It included ways of leading congregations into exploring new life even as they were, of necessity, in the process of 'closing their doors.'
Leading the group of 60+ registrants, both clergy and laity, through broad discussions on some of the principals in his books, the Rev. Nixon helped the group deal with some of the realities of life in the congregations of North Dakota. Of particular interest to many of the participants was finding ways to tap the resources available in the people of the congregation, ideas waiting within people who may, or may not, make their ideas known.
There was conversation around questions evoked in the participants, and the Rev. Nixon's ability to keep the group at ease sparked freedom to ask questions and share thoughts.
With the response of the participants being very positive, your NDCC Board of Directors is seeking ideas for future continuing education events. Please share your ideas by communicating with one of the Board members or with Elicia Jacobson, Exec. Secretary of NDCC.
